National Mentoring Scheme
The National Mentoring Scheme provides students with an experience of working with young people in schools. As a mentor student gain a Valuable experience of working with young people as well as:
- Training from the NMS team as well as Child Protection & Safeguarding training
- Invaluable opportunities for personal development, including becoming better organised and more resourceful
- The opportunity to develop your communication skills and to gain experience which will contribute to your personal effectiveness and career prospects
- The satisfaction of helping young people to grow, develop and achieve their goals and potential
Training
Students taking part in the National Mentoring Scheme are required to undertake an intensive two day training programme this year taking place on 2nd - 3rd November.

The National Mentoring Scheme
The role of a mentor is to help mentees to:
- Develop a positive attitude to the problems facing them
- Deepen their subject knowledge, develop study skills and learning strategies
- Improve their academic performance and raise their aspirations
During the sessions the mentor will:
- Provide support, encouragement, guidance and motivation
- Listen and discuss anything of importance with the mentees
- Assist the mentees in drawing up appropriate action plans
