Parents & Supporters

More and more students are going on to HE than ever before, students come from all backgrounds and it is anticipated that by 2010 half of UK adults under 30 wll have gone through higher education. This will include many students from families that have no prior experience of going to university, or who are from groups that are currently under represented in higher education.

All the research shows that parents, families and supporters are the biggest influence on young peoples choices. Family members can provide encouragement, inspiration and advice, but also need to have access to information, guidance and support themselves.

How Aimhigher can help

Aimhigher Greater Merseyside is working in partnership across the region with universities, schools, colleges and work based learning providers to encourage young people to succeed and progress to higher education.

This also means working closely with community groups and with parents and supporters to provide the advice and encouragement that is needed to help them with their childs progression towards higher education.

This website is designed to provide guidance on many of the issues around higher education from finance to accommodation as well as to provide links to further sources of information. While much of the site is aimed at young people the information contained in the pages should be useful to anybody wishing to find out more about higher education.

Geoff Cole:
"It's encouraging for me as a parent, you are encouraged yourself by seeing them motivated so you try and do as much as you can to help in terms of finance. It's not easy but you do what you can to help them finance their education."
