Calderstones Pupils Get Creative

Pupils from Calderstones School took part in exciting new creative sessions when the Radio City Media Bus visited them on 26th January.

During the day over 60 Year 9 and 10 pupils from the Liverpool school took part in a media session on the bus, which is equipped with state-of-the-art media production equipment and is staffed by a team of teacher, professional journalist and sound engineer.

Each session began with a welcome from the Media Bus manager Paul Fenton who introduced the team and talked about careers in the creative industries and benefits of continuing into higher education.

Peter McDowell, sports journalist at City Talk FM and graduate of Liverpool John Moores University was on also onboard to help out with the sessions and talk to the pupils about his own education, career journey and aspirations for the future.

Pupils worked in small groups to develop their own scripts for an Aimhigher advert using some of the themes around careers and higher education that they'd discussed. Assisted by the Radio City team and Graduate Mentor Tom Coupe the pupils used Apple MacBooks to create their script and then, using the onboard radio studio, they recorded their adverts.

The pupils's recordings were edited into a professional sounding audio clip, with music of their choice then added to create the finished advert which they received on their mobile phones via Bluetooth.

Richard Finch from Aimhigher Greater Merseyside explains "The Media Bus offers pupils the opportunity to get hands-on with all the latest industry standard equipment. It is a great chance for them to work with professionals from the radio industry and find out more about the benefits of higher education in a fun and creative way."
