REACHing High
REACHing High works with groups of Black boys from Calderstones High School, St Margaret's and Childwall High School in Liverpool.
The project was launched in 2008 in response to the Governments' REACH Report on raising the aspirations and attainment of Black Boys and Young Black Men. The report identified how black boys were less likely to do well at school, more likely to be unemployed and more likely to be involved in the criminal justice system.
The Project
REACHing High aims to promote and develop positive attitudes to learning and career development for Black boys and enable them to progress into university and higher education.
The boys, who have now moved on to year 10, have returned hot on the success of last year's photography activities and the subsequent end of year awards celebration - click here for more information
The focus for REACHing High Year 2 involves the boys receiving tuition in media and publishing skills, culminating in the eventual production of a youth culture magazine aimed commercially at black males amongst their own age group.
