Aimhigher Greater Merseyside

Champions

Champions is an action learning project that works with 120 Year 9 students from across Greater Merseyside who are capable of high achievement but who have not considered higher education as an option.

Aims:

  1. To equip young people with the skills and confidence to take greater responsibility for their own attainment, including encouraging them to take a more active involvement in learning.
  2. To encourage young people to become advocates/champions of learning within their schools, homes and communities.
  3. To raise awareness of further and higher education as progression options.
  4. To help young people enhance their personal, communication and leadership skills.

Champions Activities

Participation in the range of project activities will enable the young people to become champions of learning to their peers and to younger age groups. Participating students will take part in a range of interactive activities, both in school and local Higher Education Intuitions that will expand their knowledge of education and enable them to make more educated decisions about their future. The students will once again experience an overnight residential in July at The University of Liverpool Halls of Residence.

The Project also invites previous years Champions, who are in Years 10 & 11, to return to the Champions Project and take part in a range of new activities which include visits to a range of institutions such as, Huddersfield, Oxford and York Universities and GCSE Mentoring.
